The Crows of Weymouth Beach at the Dublin Street Photography Festival, 2025

Post date: 27 December 2025

In May this year I exhibited 10 photos from my Crows of Weymouth Beach series at the Dublin Street Photography Festival. It was my first visit to the city since June 1989.

I also had a couple of images in the Singles exhibition…  (The prominent "tiny child" print is by Julachart Pleansanit, Thailand, who won second prize, Singles.)

Martin Parr (RIP) was in attendance, and the organisers did a great job with the Festival.

From crows to ... urban seagulls

Seagulls are increasingly in the news in the UK, as their behaviour towards humans seems to be getting more aggressive every year, especially in seaside locations. They dive-bomb humans to snatch food such as chips and ice-cream cones. Looking through my archives, I have about 80 images featuring the birds, and I've posted a small selection below. "Seagull" is catch-all term for various species of gull at the seaside. The ones here are all the commonly seen herring gull (Larus argentatus), apart from the black-headed gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundusin Bournemouth.

A Murder by the Sea: The Crows of Weymouth Beach

A brief edit of my series, "The Crows of Weymouth Beach"...

Weymouth, UK is unusal among seaside resorts in having a large population of crows, as well as the usual seagulls. This is possibly due to the proximity of many large trees for roosting in Nothe Gardens.
