Brighton Street Photography Walk/Workshop with Paul Russell

Brighton Street Photography Walk/Workshop with Paul Russell
This is a practical introduction to street photography suitable for beginners/intermediates, given by well-known street photographer Paul Russell (www.paulrussell.info).

It takes the form of an informal walk and discussions around Brighton (with around 3.5 hours walking/shooting and 1.5 hours sitting/discussion).

We will be attempting observational, candid street photography in the tradition of Cartier-Bresson and Garry Winogrand. This will involve taking candid photos – not asking people for portraits. Participants should bring a digital camera.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Spotting possible photo opportunities.
  • How to take interesting photos including people, without using a telephoto.
  • How to be discreet using body language/demeanour.
  • Street photography camera techniques, e.g. zone focusing.
  • Methods for overcoming photographers block.
  • Learning to anticipate and make the most of interesting situations.
  • What equipment to use.
  • Legalities of street photography.

Date: 14 May 2016, 12 to 5 pm
A maximum of six participants. Price: £45

Contact paul@paulrussell.info for further details or just book using debit or credit card with the button at the very bottom of this post. As of today, 10 May 2016, there is one place available

Brighton is less than an hour from London Victoria by train, and we will be exploring some interesting areas, away from the usual photo spots.

Please be wary of the growing number of street photography workshops given by people who like to take walks/workshops, but have scant credentials or track record in the genre!

Price: £45. Contact paul@paulrussell.info to book/further details.

Eight from London, October 2015

Last month I took advantage of a special offer on the train and made a few trips up to London. When going to London over the past couple of years, I felt I’d got into a bit of a routine/rut of heading for the West End, so on my visits this month, I made a point of not going north of the river…

I had my left arm in a sling for this month due to a broken collar bone. Top tip - don't cycle while carrying loads of bags.
